2–3 lb (900 g – 1.4 kg) smoked beef brisket, diced or shredded 2 tbsp (30 ml) vegetable oil 1 large onion, diced 4 cloves garlic, minced 2 tbsp chili powder 1 tbsp ground cumin 1 tsp smoked paprika 1 (14 oz / 400 g) can crushed tomatoes 2 cups (480 ml) beef stock Salt and black pepper to taste Optional toppings: shredded cheddar, chopped green onions
1. In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat; sauté onion until translucent, add garlic and spices and cook 1 minute until fragrant. 2. Add diced smoked brisket, crushed tomatoes and beef stock; bring to a simmer. 3. Reduce heat and simmer gently 45–60 minutes to meld flavors, adjusting seasoning as needed. 4. Serve hot with toppings of choice.
